Mount Moroto (3,085m) lies in Moroto District, north east of Uganda. One of a chain of volcanoes along the Kenyan border that begins with Mount Elgon in south and includes Mountains Kadama and Morungole, Moroto is a forest reserve protecting a range of habitats from arid thorn savanna to dry montane forest. It is one of the most accessible and a habitant for over 225 bird species. Pian-Upe, Bokora and Matheniko Wildlife Reserves stretch from the north of Mount Elgon to Kotido District, North East of Uganda. The Wildlife reserves have a significant numbers of games species due to the various rivers and green river valleys. The animals include buffalos, hyenas, dik-dik, kudus, zebras, topis, orex, Jackson herte beasts, oribi, ostriches and occasionally, Kenyan zebras which wander from Kenya through the Pian-Upe Reserve.
