2026 Itinerary: 12 Day Uganda & Rwanda special
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Shoebill Excursion
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport where your Mamaland Safaris guide welcomes you to Uganda. Depending on your arrival time, set off for Mabamba Wetland, one of the best places in Africa to search for the rare and prehistoric-looking Shoebill Stork. Afterwards transfer to your lodge by the shores of Lake Victoria.
Overnight: Tilapia Lodge
Day 2: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary & top of the falls in Murchison Falls National Park
Leave Entebbe behind and journey northwards towards Murchison Falls National Park. Along the way, stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you track rhinos on foot with a ranger guide. Continue to Murchison Falls and visit the spectacular Top of the Falls where the Nile forces its way through a narrow gorge before plunging dramatically below.
Overnight: Hornbill Bush Lodge
Day 3: Game Drive and Nile Boat Cruise
Start the day with an early morning game drive across Uganda’s largest national park. Search for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards and numerous antelope species. In the afternoon enjoy a boat cruise on the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, with excellent opportunities to spot hippos, crocodiles and birdlife.
Overnight: Hornbill Bush Lodge
Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Travel south through Uganda’s scenic countryside. Watch the landscape transform from savannah to rolling hills, villages and tea plantations as you make your way towards Kibale Forest National Park, Uganda’s primate capital.
Overnight: Isunga Lodge
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
This morning head into Kibale Forest in search of wild chimpanzees the first primate trek of this 12 days Uganda & Rwanda safari. Follow experienced rangers through the rainforest as you look for our closest relatives. After the trek continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the crater lakes region, arriving in time to enjoy the views over the savannah.
Overnight: Pumba Safari Cottages
Day 6: Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Safari
Explore Queen Elizabeth National Park on a morning game drive. The park is home to elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, hyenas and a variety of antelope species. In the afternoon enjoy a boat cruise on the famous Kazinga Channel where hippos, crocodiles and large concentrations of wildlife gather along the shoreline.
Overnight: Pumba Safari Cottages
Day 7: Ishasha and Tree-Climbing Lions
Travel south through Queen Elizabeth National Park to the remote Ishasha sector. This area is famous for its unique tree-climbing lions that are often seen resting in large fig trees. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in search of lions, elephants, buffaloes, topis and leopards.
Overnight: Topi Lodge
Day 8: Community Walk and Transfer to Bwindi
Begin the day with a guided community walk around Topi Lodge. Experience rural Ugandan life and learn more about the communities living alongside the national park. Afterwards continue through the scenic hills of southwestern Uganda towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Overnight: Gorilla Mist Camp
Day 9: Gorilla Trekking and Transfer to Kisoro
Today brings one of Africa’s greatest wildlife experiences. Venture into the ancient rainforest of Bwindi in search of endangered mountain gorillas. Once located, spend one unforgettable hour observing a gorilla family in their natural habitat. After this great highlight of our 12 days Uganda & Rwanda we continue to Kisoro.

Day 10: Batwa Cultural Experience and Transfer to Rwanda
This morning, meet the Batwa people, the original forest inhabitants in this region. Learn how they once survived in the rainforest using traditional hunting techniques, medicinal plants and ancient survival skills. Afterwards cross into Rwanda and continue to your lodge near Volcanoes National Park with beautiful views of the Virunga Volcanoes.
Overnight: Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge
Day 11: Golden Monkey Trekking and Kigali City Tour
Head into Volcanoes National Park in search of the playful golden monkeys. Watch them leap through the bamboo forests on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains. Later continue to Kigali where you enjoy a city tour including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, providing insight into Rwanda’s history and remarkable transformation.
