Boat-cruise on the Nile to Murchison Falls

A few months ago I went on a safari to Murchison Falls National Park and did the boat-cruise on the Nile. We started off from the dock and went up the river. The guide pointed out hippos soaked in the water so you could only see their heads above the surface as well as crocodiles resting on the banks and birds hunting for fish. Being on the big river taking in the scenery was an experience in itself and reaching the base of the falls an impressive sight. Something I will remember from the boat-cruise is the cliff sides full of birds. Red-throated Bee-eaters have made their nests on the vertical cliff wall and you can see them sitting there in big numbers.

In Uganda the mighty Nile is at the beginning of its journey on to Egypt and the Mediterranean sea. At Murchison Falls National Park the Victoria Nile is pushed down a 45 meter fall which gives the park its name. It is a popular attraction in the park to go for a boat-cruise on the Nile. The journey takes around three hours and brings the visitors to the base of the falls. Along the way it is possible to see elephants, hippos, Nile crocodiles, buffaloes, giraffes and several species of water birds. For the one who wishes there is an option of getting off the boat by the base of the falls and take a hike to the top of the falls.
