At the end of a safari last month our visitors finished off in Lake Mburo National Park, the home of zebras and impalas. Here they were taken for a game-drive to see what the park has to offer. Driving along the tracks they were rewarded with a great sighting of zebras as well as seeing many of the other residents of the park.
Lake Mburo National Park
Lake Mburo National Park is located along the way when connecting to or from the south western parts of Uganda. This makes it so that it is commonly the last stop on many safari itineraries. Spending a night here gives visitors the chance to do a game-drive on the day of arrival and then in the next morning head out for a safari walk.
This park is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks. The park has 68 different species of mammals including Zebra, Impala, Eland, Giraffe, Topi and Buffalo. Leopards, hyena and jackals are the predators that are present. The fact that there are no elephants clearing the landscape makes it a bit different from Uganda’s other savannah parks.
The giraffes that now are in the park were moved here in 2015 from Murchison Falls National Park. Uganda Wildlife Authority did this in a step for the conservation of the Rotchild’s Giraffe.
The bird population includes 315 species of birds including the rare Shoebill stork, papyrus yellow warbler and African fin foot. For birders we recommend taking the boat-cruise on the lake for the chance of seeing the African Finfoot.
