Lake Nkuruba campsite is truly deserving the nickname “the monkey place”. Here you have the chance of meeting black and white colobus, red colobus as well as vervet monkeys close-up. Lake Nkuruba is a nature reserve close to Kibale Forest and it consists of a beautiful volcanic crater lake surrounded by forest. It is possible to go for different guided walks in the area exploring the forest and crater lakes around. But just staying at the camp is also a nice option as the monkeys will be around! Usually you can spot them around the camp and just sit there to study these fascinating animals.
Lake Nkuruba nature reserve and community campsite is run as an eco tourism project so all profits goes to preserving the nature reserve and supporting the local community. They offer basic budget accommodation in cottages as well as food. We like to include “the monkey place” as a part of the safari for visitors within this price range since it is a very special nature experience to stay at the camp with the monkeys around. For the photo interested this is really a great opportunity to try to get good pictures of monkeys. The pictures below were taken during a safari now in July when a night was spent at the camp.
