Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park

The southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park is called Ishasha. This sector of the park has beautiful scenery combined with one of the most unique wildlife sightings Uganda has to offer. Ishasha is home to tree-climbing lions. The highlight of a game-drive here is to find the big cats resting high on a branch in a fig tree.

Lions are big cats and it is rare for them to have the habit of regularly climbing trees. Scientists are not sure why the lions of Ishasha have taken to the tree-climbing habit. Theories include that it is to escape insects or to get a good vantage point. No matter what their reason is it is a very impressive sight to see a big lion effortlessly relaxing on a branch. A game-drive in Ishasha is truly not something to miss during your Uganda safari. Besides the tree-climbing lions you have chance to see big herds of topi, buffalo, elephant and more.
