Morning game-drive in Murchison Falls NP

T

Our game-drive in Murchison Falls adventure started off from the lodge in the early morning. With a packed breakfast ready to be enjoyed later. A short drive took us to the entry gate and the safari adventure in Murchison Falls NP could begin. Driving along the tracks we spotted giraffes in abundance, elephants and more.

Furthermore, driving up to the ruins of the old Pakuba lodge we kept our eyes open. To see if we could manage to spot some hyenas. Driving around the overgrown ruins we felt luck was not on our side but just as we were turning down the road to leave the ruins two young hyenas were spotted. Letting me tick off a species I had never seen.

Next on the agenda was to drive down to the river Nile and enjoy our packed breakfast. Turning a corner along the way we spotted the highlight of the game-drive so the breakfast had to wait a bit. Just by the roadside in-front of us were two lion cubs playing and in the shade of some bushes behind them a female lioness was resting.

After studying the curious lion cubs for a while we continued on seeing that there was another safari car standing a little bit up the road. Soon we could see that they were enjoying another great sight, a big male was lying a few meters off the road taking a rest. Lazily he rested and didn’t care much about us. Thus feeling happy after seeing the big cats we continued down to the river to have our breakfast as we could see hippos in the water in-front of us.

The last part of the game-drive offered the sight of a leopard jumping down a tree just as we approached, more giraffes, cute oribi antelopes, Jackson’s hartbeest and the peculiar looking Abyssinian ground hornbill. As the sun started to heat up the savannah we finished off our game-drive and concluded that it had been a great one!
