We love to include a safari in Ishasha in our Uganda tours. Ishasha’s wilderness is truly something special. Here in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park we find scenic nature, big herds of buffaloes as well as topis plus the famous tree-climbing lions.
Safari in Ishasha
Lets take a look at some moments from resent safaris in Ishasha. The Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park offers a landscape with open savannah. On this savannah big herds of buffalo, Uganda cob and topi find their home. During a safari in Ishasha you have the chance to see these big herds spread out grazing or enjoying a water hole.
tree-climbing lions
As mentioned above the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park is known for its tree-climbing lions. Lions are big cats and it’s a very special sight to see them resting peacefully on a branch high in a tree. This behavior of climbing-trees is rare for lions and it is actually not known exactly why the lions of Ishasha have taken on the habit of regularly climbing trees. With that said there are theories on why they do it. These include ideas of that it could be to get away from insects or to get a better view point.
A safari in Ishasha has you pinning your eyes on the big fig trees to see if you can sight some lions. Just imagine the excitement when they are seen!
Our visitors usually spend at least one night at Topi Lodge just the edge of the Ishasha sector, so they had plenty of time to explore the savannah of Ishasha. The picture below is from a meal at Topi Lodge, as you can see the lodge lets you enjoy close to nature.
