Itinerary: 8 Days Uganda budget safari

Day 1: Arrival – Shoebill Search by Canoe

Your adventure kicks off right from the start! After arriving in Entebbe, we head straight to nature. Glide silently through Mabamba Swamp in a local canoe. This is one of the best places in East Africa to spot the rare and prehistoric-looking Shoebill Stork, standing statuesque in the papyrus.

In the evening, settle in at Tilapia Lodge, a peaceful lakeside retreat where Great Blue Turacos and weaver birds often join you for breakfast.

Day 2: Rhinos & Nile River Views – Transfer to Murchison Falls NP

We drive north through Uganda’s lively countryside, breaking the journey with a special experience at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where you can track wild rhinos on foot. This conservation success story is a great way to kick off the Big 5 sightings.

By late afternoon, arrive at Hornbill Bush Lodge, nestled in the bush just by the Nile. Enjoy dinner possibly with the sounds of hippos and the sight of elephants.

Day 3: Game Drive & Boat Safari in Murchison Falls NP

Wake up to birdsong and the smell of fresh coffee before heading out on a morning game drive across the savanna. Keep your eyes open for lions, giraffes, elephants, and buffaloes. After lunch, cruise the mighty Nile to the base of the thunderous Murchison Falls, spotting hippos, crocodiles, and a stunning variety of birds along the way.

End the day back at Hornbill, watching the sun dip behind the riverbank.

Day 4: Scenic Drive to Queen Elizabeth NP

Today’s drive south is an experience in itself. Journey through villages, lush farmland, and the green highlands of western Uganda. Your destination is Pumba Safari Cottages, perched above Queen Elizabeth NP with views stretching out over the plains and epic sunset views. This is the heart of the Great Rift Valley.

Day 5: Chimp Trekking & Kazinga Channel Cruise

Start with a morning chimps trek in Kyambura Gorge, a sunken rainforest teeming with life. See a group of wild chimpanzees, swinging through the trees or grooming each other.

After lunch, head out on a classic Kazinga Channel boat cruise, a highlight of Queen Elizabeth NP. Cruise past hippos, elephants, buffaloes, and countless birds gathering along the shores.

Day 6: Tree-Climbing Lions & Journey to Bwindi

Travel through the Ishasha sector, a unique landscape where lions are known for climbing giant fig trees—a rare and fascinating behavior. Keep your camera ready as we search for them lounging above the savanna.

Continue to the jungle hills of Bwindi. Spend the evening at Buhoma Community Rest Camp, a locally-run lodge supporting community initiatives.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking – A Day You’ll Never Forget

With excitement in the air, begin your gorilla trekking adventure. Accompanied by expert trackers, hike through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to spend a magical hour with a family of mountain gorillas. This is a humbling and heart-stirring wildlife experience.

After the trek, continue to Topi Lodge, just at the edge of Queen Elizabeth’s Ishasha sector, for a relaxed evening and a guided village walk at sunset—connect with the local community and take in the views.

Day 8: Scenic Drive to Entebbe – With Equator Stop

It’s time to say farewell to the wild southwest as we begin the journey back to Entebbe. This scenic drive takes you through ever-changing landscapes—from Ishasha’s savannah  to rolling farmland and bustling roadside towns.

Along the way, we stop at the Equator, where you can snap a classic photo and explore local craft stalls for souvenirs. After lunch en route, continue to Entebbe for your evening or night flight.
