Day-by-Day Uganda Tanzania Safari Itinerary:

Get ready for a 11 day itinerary of unforgettable exploration! From the lush forests of Uganda to the sweeping savannas of Tanzania, each day of this East Africa safari brings new landscapes, wildlife, and memorable moments. Here’s how your journey unfolds—step by step.

 

DAY 1:  ARRIVAL AT ENTEBBE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Our guide will be readily waiting to welcome you up upon arrival at Entebbe airport. You then transfer to the accommodation in Entebbe to relax from the long flight.

DAY 2:  TRANSFER TO BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Meet your guide and start off early from Entebbe. During this day of starting our Uganda & Tanzania safari we journey to the home of the Mountain Gorillas. Be prepared for a long day in the car. Along the way you will make a stop by the Equator for some photos. As well as have lunch in Masaka or Mbarara depending on the time. Continue on to to Bwindi Mountains where the journey offers some great views.

DAY 3: GORILLA TREKKING DAY- BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the home to the forest giants that are cousins to human beings, the Mountain Gorillas. In the morning your guides takes you to the starting point of the gorilla trek. You then enter the jungle with a specialized guide to trek to the Mountain Gorillas, a great highlight of this Uganda & Tanzania safari.

Besides the gorillas this Impenetrable Forest is full of birds, butterflies and plant species plus forest elephants, statungas and duikers. Enjoy the walk through the forest and spend one hour around the gorillas. After the trek your guide picks you and start the journey to the lodge by the southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Continuing on the way takes you from the forest covered mountains, to cultivated hills, villages and on to the savanna of Ishasha part of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Arrive at the lodge by Ishasha for a relaxed evening.

DAY 4: GAME DRIVE ISHASHA, KAZINGA CHANNEL BOAT-CRUISE

We start the day with a warm breakfast before exploring Ishasha with a game-drive. The area is known for tree climbing lions and if lucky we could have some beautiful sightings. After the game-drive we start the journey northwards on the adventurous road leading through the park to the northern part of Queen Elizabeth NP. Along this road you can be lucky to see elephants, monkeys and even big cats.

After lunch we get ready for the Classic highlights on the 2hrs Boat cruise on the famous Kazinga channel. This is a 36kms long natural channel linking Lake George and Lake Edward. Here we can expect to see land and water Adapted Hippopotamuses Yawning. As well as National Geographical society Killing machine the Nile crocodile gaping along the Banks! Besides that we can see Savannah version of pigs the Warthog. We finish the day off with a game-drive out of the park en route to the lodge seeing what we can tick off before the sunsets.

DAY 5: Transfer to Kibale Forest NAtional Park & afternoon chimps trekking

Start the fifth day of the Uganda Tanzania safari by transferring over to Kibale Forest National Park through the beautiful crater lakes area. In the afternoon you head with a specialized guide into the forest to meet our close relatives the chimpanzees. In Kibale Forest National Park you will se the chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Enjoy the excitement of walking in the jungle and hopefully get great sightings. After the trek your guide takes you to the lodge to relax.

DAY 6: TRANSFER TO ENTEBBE WITH POSSIBLE GUIDED WALK AROUND THE BOTANICAL GARDENS

We start the day with a relaxed breakfast before starting the drive to Entebbe. With lunch stop on the way and getting some time to stretch the legs at the Equator. Time allowing we can have a guided nature walk along the Entebbe botanical garden for the different primates, birds and plant species. You are then taken to the lodge by Entebbe to enjoy your last night in Uganda during this Uganda & Tanzania safari.

DAY 7: REGIONAL FLIGHT TO KILIMAJARO, TANZANIA, IN THE MORNING – TRANSFER TO Arusha

After breakfast get ready for the air transfer to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. In Kilimanjaro your guide will pick you and proceed to Arusha to spend the night. Here you can get a good rest to be ready for the great wildlife experiences to come in the next few days. As we have arrived in the second country of the Uganda Tanzania safari.

DAY 8: TRANSFER TO EXPLORE THE SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Today we make the journey to Serengeti National Park. Once reaching you will marvel at the multitude of animal and bird life while journeying through this acacia-spotted savannah. Game sightings abound. We arrive at the accommodation in time to enjoy a respite from the dirt roads and heat of the day and enjoy a hearty lunch. Later on in the afternoon, as the animal kingdom comes alive, continue your search for the “Big 5″. These are lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. While taking in the vastness of the Serengeti plains heading for the lodge as the sun sets on this magnificent animal kingdom.

DAY 9: EXPERIENCE SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After an early rise spend the morning exploring the vast Serengeti and we move from location to location in search of sometimes elusive game. As well as visit a waterhole known for its Hippos and alligators. Visit the Masai Kopjes, airstrip area and then back to the heart of Serengeti.

DAY 10: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK-NGORONGORO CRATER

Today we start the itinerary by heading towards Ngorongoro Crater, cited as ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ’8th Natural Wonder of the World’. This is the last highlight of this Uganda & Tanzania safari. The Ngorongoro Crater is a breath-taking natural wonder referred to as the world’s biggest wildlife zoo, due to its high density of resident game. In the afternoon we descend to the crater floor. Where you will be amazed by the sheer number and diversity of animals and birdlife. Standing in our pop up safari vehicle the viewing opportunities are endless, just deciding which way to look and what to look at, the choices are unlimited. The sheer excitement as we spot any of the big 5. Tonight as we relax we reflect on what has been a truly remarkable journey like no other. Marvel in the wonders of the amazing wildlife East Africa has to offer.

DAY 11: TRANSFER TO ARUSHA / KILIMANJARO & FLIGHT

In the morning we make the drive to Arusha or Kilimanjaro where you are dropped off as we have reached the end of your safari adventure. Here you can plan to catch a flight on to other adventures or back to your home country. Full of memories to marvel over for a long time after your Uganda & Tanzania safari.

How difficult is gorilla trekking in Uganda?

Gorilla trekking requires a reasonable level of fitness, but most visitors complete the trek successfully. Depending on where the gorillas are located, the hike can last anywhere from around one hour to several hours. Will I see the Big Five during this safari?

You have an excellent chance of seeing the Big Five during this itinerary. Lions, elephants, buffaloes and leopards are regularly seen in Uganda and Tanzania, while Ngorongoro Crater offers one of the best opportunities in East Africa to spot the endangered black rhino. Although wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, experienced guides greatly increase your chances.

 

Do I need separate visas for Uganda and Tanzania?

Yes. Most international visitors require separate visas for Uganda and Tanzania. Visa requirements can change, so we recommend checking the latest regulations for your nationality before travelling.

Mountain gorilla trekking itineraries
12 days Big 5 & gorillas 

This is honestly one of our most popular itineraries for Uganda tours letting you explore Uganda in a nice tempo. We start the tour off with a night by Lake Victoria and if time allows a search for the Great Shoebill Stork. Next day we drive to Murchison Falls National Park via rhino trekking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. We then head south to Kibale Forest for chimps trekking and one to Queen Elizabeth National Park for more animals of the savannah. Next is the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mountain Gorilla trekking. We finish the Uganda tour off with relaxation at Lake Bunyonyi and wildlife at Lake Mburo National Park.

14 days  Kenya & Uganda tour 

This East Africa combination tour lets you explore Masai Mara’s impressive animal life as well as Lake Nakuru National Park in Kenya. You then cross over to Uganda where the first stop is source of the Nile in Jinja. We then continue for chimps trekking in Kibale Forest National Park. Heading south we search for tree-climbing lions in Ishasha and you go for Mountain Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
