Topis in abundance – Ishasha

In the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park we find the peculiar looking Topi . On a recent drive from Bwindi’s mountains to the main part of Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha one of our safari teams met an abundance of Topis by the roadside. Stopping to look the Topis could be studied for a long time as they were crossing the road just in front of the car.

The Topi is an antelope and it lives in a herd. When born they are pale and then develop the special pattern that can be seen on the adults. They are one of the fastest antelopes, being able to reach speeds of 70 km per hour. In the Ishasha sector you can be lucky to see big herds of these antelopes.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park is a popular tourist destination with its almost 100 mammal species and a remarkable 606 bird species. During a safari in this park you can see elephants, a profusion of hippos, the elusive giant forest hog, lions, leopards and handsome Uganda kob among others.

Your safari in this park should truly include a boat cruise on Kazinga channel. The Kazinga channel is a 36 km channel connecting Lake George and Lake Edward. In the waters and along the shores you can expect to see a rich animal life with hippos, buffaloes, elephants, birds and more.

You can do game-drives in the main part of the park or in the southern Ishasha sector. Queen Elizabeth National Park’s southern Ishasha sector is known for being one of two parks in the world where lions have the habit of regularly climbing trees. Here you game-drive to spot the lions high in the big fig trees.

You can as well trek chimpanzees in Queen Elizabeth National Park’s Kyambura Gorge or close by Kalinzu Forest.

Come for a tailor-made Uganda safari with us.
